Intel’s teamed up with bitter rival AMD to unveil a unique mashup of the best the pair have to offer – the 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon RX Vega M Graphics. Making its CES 2018 debut, the SoC is meant to power top-of-the-line gaming laptops and professional machines.
This is far and away the most advanced member of the 8th Gen Intel Core processor portfolio, boasting of a quad-core Intel CPU, Radeon RX Vega M Graphics, and 4GB of dedicated HBM2 (High Bandwidth Memory 2). It’ll be sold in 2 options, with one featuring 65W of power via Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics and the other 100W of power via Radeon RX Vega M GH Graphics.
Intel’s placing a big emphasis on the space savings its latest product offers, talking about how the chips are optimized for 2-in-1 laptops, lightweight notebooks, and mini PCs. While such devices might have weighed in at 7 pounds and lasted for 4 hours 3 years ago, each can now be reduced down to under 17mm and power through 8 hours of battery life.

Mixed and virtual reality gamers can look forward to 3 times the frames per second on thinner devices than before. Intel specifically calls out Vermintide 2 as an example, claiming that it can be played in high resolution with smooth motion and eye-popping colors. Even content creators will benefit since they’ll able to create 3D images and edit videos seamlessly.

The 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon RX Vega M Graphics will show up on 2-in-1 offerings from the likes of Dell and HP this year, in addition to Intel’s own NUC 8 VR Machine in Spring 2018. The last stands for Next Unit of Computing and is a mini PC which can connect up to 6 monitors. It’s the smallest one the company has ever produced.
