Twitter CEO Elon Musk has said that the micro-blogging and social media platform will “soon” extend “longform tweets” to accommodate up to 10,000 characters.
When YouTuber @ThePrimeagen, who posts videos related to coding, asked Musk, “the dev community and I were wondering if you could add code blocks to tweets?”
Musk tweeted back: “As an attachment? How many chars? We are extending longform tweets to 10k soon.”
Last month, the company had announced that Twitter Blue subscribers in the US could post long tweets of up to 4,000 characters. Non-subscribers can read, reply to, quote tweet (tweet someone else’s tweet with your own comment added) and retweet such long tweets.

For those without a Blue account—which is pegged at $8 per month or $84 per year, tweets are limited to only 280 characters presently.
It’s not clear whether there will be higher tier pricing plans for users wishing to publish 10,000-character tweets. In 2016, Twitter’s ex-CEO Jack Dorsey had to put out a tweet telling people to calm down when a report of the platform enabling longform tweets of 10,000 characters came out. Unsurprisingly, the public reaction is mixed this time around too.
Musk has also said that Twitter is “spinning up subscriptions” so that users can “charge” their followers for some content.
