Since the release of the SDK kit, all software companies are willing to cash on it. And software giant Microsoft is no exception to it.
In an interview with Fortune blog, Tom Gibbons, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Specialized Devices and Applications Group, said “It’s really important for us to understand what we can bring to the iPhone.” Adding, “To the extent that Mac Office customers have functionality that they need in that environment, we’re actually in the process of trying to understand that now.”
Also the Fortune blog reported that though Apple and Microsoft are rivals, Microsoft has a group of engineers especially for developing applications for Apple’s Macintosh operating systems. A Mac version of Office is a good example of what Microsoft is delivering to Mac users.
That means Apple’s platform is not new to Microsoft and is capable of coming out with some applications for the popular device.
“We do have experience with that environment, and that gives us confidence to be able to do something,” said Gibbons in the interview. “The key question is, what is the value that we need to bring? We’re still getting comfortable with the SDK, right? It’s just come out. So we had a guess as to what feasibility would be like, now we’ll really get our head wrapped around that.”
The iPhone software update with such third-party softwares is expected to release in June. That’s when the curtain on Microsoft’s application for iPhone will be raised. Until then, we will have to wait.
