Exploring the Medieval World of Blight: Survival
Blight: Survival is an exciting co-operative extraction-lite game set in a fictional version of the 14th century.
With its unique premise of gamers fighting zombie-like monsters, bandits and other knights in medieval settings, it promises to offer players a thrilling adventure.
If you’re expecting it to be a game like DayZ, but against a medieval backdrop, you’ll be disappointed. Think of Escape from Tarkov or Vermintide instead.
As a team of up to four people, players must work together to reach and destroy the source of the Blight, a deadly affliction that plagues the land.
Blight: Survival combines elements of survival horror, exploration, and strategic combat to create an adrenaline-pumping gameplay experience.
You can play solo too, if you wish. But there are few things as fun as jumping into a game like this with your friends.
Setting and theme: Immersing Yourself in an Alternate 14th Century
You’re transported to a free-roaming map where darkness and chaos reign supreme. The game’s world is beautifully crafted – it captures the gritty backdrop of two kingdoms at war that are now haunted by the Blight which has arisen from the remains of the fallen.
From haunted forests to decaying castles, each location is filled with danger and mystery.
Unleashing the Horror: Gameplay and Key Features
Blight: Survival will offer an intense co-op experience that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
In Blight: Survival, teamwork is crucial for survival. Players will need to work together, utilizing their unique skills and abilities, to overcome the horrors that await them.
Whether it’s battling infected enemies, looting or scavenging, communication and coordination between players will be of utmost importance.
Here are some key features of Blight: Survival:
- PvE (Player versus Environment): The world of Blight: Survival offers a PvE experience. In November 2023. Haenir confirmed that there were no plans for PvP.
- Permadeath and semi-procedurally generated elements: Each playthrough in Blight: Survival is unique, thanks to its procedurally generated elements that affect the time of day, patrol patterns, weather, spore migration routes and so on. This ensures that no two gameplay experiences are alike, keeping players engaged and constantly adapting to new challenges. There is permadeath, but all is not lost if you die due to the game’s roguelite aspect.
- Terrifying Enemies: From grotesque creatures spawned by the Blight to corrupted humans driven mad by the affliction, Blight: Survival offers a wide range of terrifying enemies to encounter – Hybrids (animals fused with humans), Hidden (hidden and re-animating infected), Armored (humans and infected), Swelter (heavy infected, emitting airborne spores), Mini-bosses (multiple organisms combined) and Decayed (old and decomposing infected).
- Unique Character Progression: There’s no class system in Blight: Survival. As players progress, they will unlock new abilities, talents, and customization options for their characters. This provides a sense of progression and allows players to tailor their playstyle to their preferences. If they don’t survive the “get in-get out” gameplay loop, their traits and talents will still pass on to their bloodline.

Here is where it gets really exciting. The developers regularly post updates about their progress and unveil teasers about the game mechanics in Blight: Survival.
First off, the game will be played from the third person perspective. It looks like there will be a single map that allows free-roaming. But the environment keeps changing due to the shifting weather and time of day, the manner in which the spores drift around and infect everything in their path and so on.
The combat system will be a mix of Mordhau and Dark Souls. Players will be able to wield a variety of ranged and melee weapon that they find or loot along the way. Loot crates will be thing, so will consumable items and upgrades.

Blight: Survival will have a crafting system too. The armor and weapons players use will be upgradable as long as they manage to scavenge for the right items.
Although the game features permadeath, players can keep returning to camp (extraction point) with their loot during a run, and they will get to keep some of it even if they die when they venture out again.
Those who don’t survive a run and fail to stash away their loot will lose all of it upon death. However, their talents and traits (and some XP, maybe?) will be passed on down their bloodline.

From what we can see in the official gameplay trailer, religion might be part of the world of Blight: Survival. That bit in the video which shows the player being given an option to place an offering in front of a deity seems to indicate they may receive a useful item or some sort of temporary buff in return.
