Enabling Dark Mode for YouTube
It may come as a surprise to you, but currently, it’s not that easy to enable the dark mode for YouTube with a couple of mouse clicks. The truth is that the dark mode is hidden, which requires you to resort to some contrivances to bring it to the surface. Still, it’s definitely worth a shot. If you frequent YouTube, enabling the dark mode will be a load off your eyes, so to speak. You’ll be able to enjoy your video without straining your eyes and tiring them out in low light or in complete dark.
Activating Dark Mode in Google Chrome
Fire up Chrome and open YouTube from it.
First, open the Chrome developer tools. To do it quickly, press Ctrl, Shift, and I simultaneously, if you’re using Windows. Alternatively, you may press F12. Mac users should select Option, Command, and I to access the tools.
After that, locate the Console button and click on it. You’ll need to copy and paste the following command into the corresponding field:
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; path=/”
Then, you can exit your tools section and refresh your browser page.
At this point, you should sign in to your account again, if necessary, and proceed with enabling the dark mode.
Click your YouTube profile image and head to the “Dark Mode” section. Once there, locate the Dark Mode toggle and activate the corresponding slider. The change should come into effect immediately.
Activating Dark Mode for YouTube in Mozilla Firefox
Those using Firefox, should open their browser and log in to their YouTube account.
Then, access your “Tools” section and select the “Web developer” option from there.
After opening the web console, make sure to type the following command into it:
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE”
Navigate to your YouTube profile and select the “Dark Mode” option. Toggle it to activate the dark mode.
From now on, you can enjoy the new option in your YouTube profile. To undo the change, just toggle the Dark Mode slider off.
Activating Dark Mode for YouTube in Opera
Open Opera and login in your YouTube account.
Access the “View” section and click on the “Show Developer Tools” option.
Navigate to “Developer” and locate the “Developer Tools” button there. Click on it.
Copy and paste the following lines of code in the console:

Close the panel and perform a refresh of your page by pressing F5.
After that, the changes should come into effect.
Activating Dark Mode for YouTube in Microsoft Edge
Login into your YouTube account via Microsoft Edge.
As was the case with Opera, you need to navigate to “Developer Tools,” which can be easily done by press combination F12.
Find the Console button, click it, and type the following line of code:
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE”
Press Enter and refresh the page.
- To enable the dark mode in other YouTube applications, you can just toggle the corresponding switch from the “Settings” section and choose “Dark Mode” from it.
