The HTC 8X and 8S have been launched with the latest Windows mobile OS on Vodafone in the UK and their pricing information has been announced. The phones received a release date for the region just a few days ago along with the Lumia 920, 820 and 620, and should make US buyers envious as the lighter model isn’t headed their way.
The 8X is the more bullish of the two and comes with the company’s dedicated imaging chip reserved for the 8MP primary camera which tags along auto focus, LED flash and a BSI sensor to enhance low-light capture. There is also a 4.3-inch screen, a 2.1MP front-facing webcam, a 1,800mAh battery and a host of sensors. But the features don’t stop there. 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory are available, while a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU handles operations.
According to the official Vodafone blog, the device can be purchased on a 2-year contract on the carrier’s red plan for £33 a month with no upfront payment attached. This scheme includes an unlimited number of calls, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. There are several other plans offered, one of which gets buyers the phone for a £149 down-payment with 100 minutes, an unlimited amount of text messages and 100MB of data, for £21 per month on a 24-month agreement.
The 8S might be the option of lesser magnitude, but it comes with some pretty high-class features. A 5MP camera finds itself on the back panel and a 1,700mAh battery unit is reserved to power the handset. The 4-inch screen is protected by Corning Gorilla glass, while users will have to settle for 512MB of RAM and a 4GB ROM. In terms of processing power, it employs a 1GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip.
The handset is available on a more economical plan which stipulates that after signing a 2-year agreement, users will be entitled to 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data for a cost of £21 every month and no upfront payment. It is also available on a 24-month scheme at a £29 upfront fee for £17 a month, accounting for 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 100MB of data.
The HTC 8X and 8S are now available to purchase in the region via Vodafone and the carrier has stocked all its stores with the new Windows Phone 8 devices.
